Our 12 week scan

We woke up this morning (Friday 13th May) super excited. But a little worried. It was our first scan since we had the internal one at 6 weeks and 6 days. And since we are 13 weeks, a tummy picture was due.

Isn’t it funny when you take tummy pictures you’re like, nah I don’t see anything. But when you compare it to the week 4 picture, you definitely see it. I think we can see it more because where the wife is losing weight through the hyperemesis, it’s a little more noticeable.

So the day started like any other. Standard telephone dr appointment for me, yay covid. Then off we went to the hospital. Because we’ve opted to give birth at Basingstoke hospital, that meant we have scans and tests at Andover. I know right, go figure 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’d like to say things went smoothly, but typically in Friday the 13th fashion, it wasn’t quite the case. Nothing bad though.

We turned up for our appointment at 9:50am. We filled out the paper work etc, went in for our scan. Now if I didn’t have to wear a mask, the wife and sonographer would have seen how big my smile was. But baby wasn’t playing ball when it came to measuring them. The wife was jumping on the spot, lifting and wiggling her bum on the table, laying on her left side, but nope - the baby clearly has picture up on her family trait. Stubbornness. So we got sent on a 15 minute walk. But we got some pictures.

Luckily, it was a lovely day 😀

Then we went back. We sat and waited patiently again. Then In for the 2nd scan. Much the same was happening, we could see what looked like baby sucking their thumb. At one point baby looked like an X-ray of Muggle (our chihuahua). More wiggling and jumping. But the stubborn baby was like nuhuh

So off we went for another walk, we grabbed a coffee for me and hot chocolate for the wife from the main entrance, only a little vending machine - highly recommend the hot chocolate, super creamy.

On our return, we did the same, waited. Then, it happened. After a little more wiggling and jumping, the sonographer was able to get an accurate due date.

17th November 2022.

It’s only a day earlier that what was estimated from our 6 week 6 day scan. So we woke up thinking we were only 13 weeks pregnant, but we are actually 13 weeks + 1. It’s getting closer 🙌🏼.

Now my cousin and her husband will be happy, as their birthdays are the same day. But we all know that babies never come when they’re due. Just like buses.

We were told, take your bank card, pictures are 3 for £10. Well, at Andover, you get reels of photos for days. All free. How. Amazing.

We didn’t leave until 12:15 because of all this faffing 🤣 but it’ll be worth it!

The next question is….

Boy or girl?

We have an early gender scan booked for 11th June. Then our next and last NHS scan is 4th July. Day before my birthday. Exciting.

I hear you asking, did we have any issues? My answer is no. No one asking if I’m just a friend, no one eyeing me weirdly. I honestly think it must be depending on which hospital you go too. Makes me not want to go back to Reading after how well we are being treated at Hampshire hospitals.

Kelly is still suffering from hyperemesis, it’s not as bad as it was, but she’s keeping more down. So hopefully that means it’s easing. 🤞🏼

Until next time…

So, What was it?

The day started sleepily. Both being rather excited to sleep very well. Having been adamant this whole time, I woke up this morning having a feeling it’d be a girl. We traveled to my parents, myself and my dad wore blue, mum and the wife wore pink. Thankfully my dad drove as I was super excited. We drove all the way to Window To The Womb in Romsey. I’d highly recommend going there over the Reading branch. The interior was really nice, staff extremely helpful and there was an abundance of parking. We checked in with the receptionist, and we had to fill out a form on a tablet. I liked the feature that we could put both of our names ‘baby of Kelly & Louise’   We got into the room for the scan, it was definitely very roomy indeed, there were 2 sofas for my parents to sit on and well as multiple screens to look at. We heard the very strong heart beat again of our little jelly bean. And saw a little 4D sneak peak. We all had to close our eyes when the sonographer was looking t...

How We Told People

Because we had been trying for so long, we had thought of many ways to tell people we were pregnant.  We know it was super early, but we were super excited. And we were only letting certain people know. My parents, the wifes dad, my brother, the wifes brother and sister in law, the wifes sister, and also one of my cousins who I'm close with and 2 of my aunts and uncles. So you know, just a little circle. Bar my aunts, uncles and Cousin, everyone else got cards and baby grows announcing we were pregnant. For my cousin and her husband, they had covid at the time so we offered to take them round some Costa coffees. The first heartbreaking issue we encounter was when we gave my aunts scratch cards - they know we're generally jokers so they didn't trust us. But they scratched them off anyway, they're those scratch cards you get off amazon that basically say we're pregnant once all scratched off. So yeah, they were both shocked and excited. The one ...

Week 22 - The One With The Heatwave

Week 22 - the week of the great British heatwave. We’re currently on the 2nd day of over 35 degrees (but obviously we’ve had plenty of glorious late 20 degree days before this point). Which would normally be blooming glorious had we been abroad. But as our lovely great british  houses are made to keep warmth in, you could imagine how we are all sleeping. Especially the wife. I’m waking up in the night to get playing on her phone and just struggling. Lady bug is kicking around as she’s all like mummy’s help I’m like a boil in the bag rice. Aren’t we all darling, aren’t we all! Some things have come to light this week. The wife has been really emotional, which has been hard to get a handle of as I’m used to her being like a brick wall when it comes to emotions. She’s had comments about her pregnancy belly, and the ‘strange’ line. It’s not a strange line, it’s your body. Embrace it baby.  We brought a cheeky hot tub! Nice little one for the 2 of us. We had our niece and ne...
